Grant Program FAQs

Question: What is the deadline for submitting a grant proposal?
Answer: Proposals are accepted and reviewed as they are received. In screening a proposal, District staff may request additional information from the applicant.

Question: How long does the process usually take from the proposal stage to the final decision?
Answer: Grant seekers whose proposals have completed initial screening will be notified within a month and may be requested to fill out a full application. Applicants should allow up to 120 days for a final determination.

Question: What are the grant-amount limits?
Answer: Successful applications are funded on a case-by-case. Applicants should thoroughly document the need for the amount requested. All expenses projected to be paid from District funds must be valid and justifiable in accordance with District grant protocol and generally accepted accounting principles.

Question: Will District representatives perform a site visit during the application process?

Answer: Site visits are often performed during the review phase of the grantmaking process. A District representative and/or member of the Program Committee may schedule a site visit to assess your operations and/or attend one of your agency’s board meetings.

Question: Once a grant is made, what are the reporting requirements for the recipient?
Answer: When a grant is awarded, reporting requirements are listed in the grant agreement as a condition of the grant. Generally, grantees will be required to report quarterly and at the end of the grant period, or as designated in the agreement. Through reporting, the District requires grantees to substantiate how they serve and benefit their clients and how their measurable outcomes are meeting the District’s mission and strategic objectives.

Question: Are agencies allowed to re-grant funds from the District to other affiliated programs?
Answer: No, the grant award is approved for a specific program/project. No portion of the funding may be re-granted to another program or agency.

Question: Does the District approve matching and/or challenge grants?

Answer: Yes, the District encourages these types of grant requests, which correspond to the District objective to facilitate collaboration among agencies whenever possible.
